Locations - DadLAN

Locations

DadLAN has locations (aka subnets, aka chapters) all around Australia. Subnets are small groups that sit under the umbrella of DadLAN, but are generally autonomous in their operation. Subnets will generally have their events at coinciding dates and times as the others, but can also organise their own events as their community decides.

Starting a subnet

A subnet can be formed in any city in Australia. The DadLAN directors will agree with the formation of a subnet provided the following criteria is met:

There is a subnet organiser (or “driver”) that will facilitate venue management, advertising, and bring people into the subnet

  • There is adequate demand in the area
  • There is the potential for a cheap venue (< $100)
  • There is grant potential to cover expenses

Once agreed, the subnet channel will be formed in Discord and will be categorised as “Developing”. The intention of a Developing subnet is to reach self-sufficiency within a 3 month period, at which point it will be assessed for continued viability.

During the 3 month period DadLAN will help cover the venue, loan laptops, help with some catering costs, and provide whatever assistance is needed to help the subnet become self-sufficient.

Catering

When a subnet is formed, they have an associated event on Humantix created each month for them. There is an option in the Humantix ticketing for a participant to choose to contribute money to DadLAN. The money from those tickets go towards catering for that subnet.

The subnet organiser will be told how much money has been raised as part of the event and they can submit expenses back to DadLAN up to that amount.

Running a subnet

Subnet organisers will be taught best practices and provided extensive support to ensure happy and successful events.
